IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING THIS YEAR’S CEREMONY
Dear Goldman Prize Community,
As you know, the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has affected much of the world, and the United States is no exception. San Francisco and the Bay Area are on high alert, with many cases reported in the region. San Francisco Opera House and City Hall have been temporarily closed for events. Residents are being advised to avoid crowds and minimize risks. It is in this context that the Goldman Environmental Foundation has made the extraordinary and unprecedented decision this year to cancel the Goldman Prize ceremonies in both San Francisco and Washington, DC. Protecting the health of both Prize winners and community members is our paramount goal.
However, we will still be awarding the 2020 Prize! Though Prize winners and community members will not be with us physically, we will proceed with the award and its online announcement on April 20, 2020. Please stay tuned for the announcement (via email and social media), dynamic content about the amazing new Prize winners, inspiration to share with your networks, and ways to take action for the environment. While we cannot all gather in person this year, we will continue as a global community to honor and support our Earth’s defenders.
Thank you for being a part of our community and for adapting with us as we stay safe!
Sincerely,
The Goldman Family
